Letters of recommendation

on May 23rd, 2009 by admindoug

Being a previous supervisor of many people I have had to write letters of recommendation before. This helped to prepare me when I was asked to do it as a professional. At times writing about people that have worked for me was difficult, especially when they were a good employee but had some problems. I would never lie or twist the truth but I have always wished them success in their future endeavors.

As a professional writer I have been asked to write about a person that I did not even know. I was given an outline and asked to make it in the third person. The person that hired me I found out later was the person I was writing about. He was very happy with my work and from his resume sounded very intelligent.

I have never heard from him again but I did wish him luck in his future search for employment. The funny thing was when he gave me his name. This did not match the initials in his email address. He told me that the initials were from his Japanese name and the name he gave me was his Canadian name. When it came time to getting paid, I was paid by him using a third name which he explained was his Chinese name. The origin of the payment came from Singapore. This just reminded me that you would never really know the person on the other end of the emails unless some time has passed. The true nature of a person will always come out after some time. But a letter of recommendation is a good way to know them professionally.
